FLASHBACK

It was exactly one year ago, that Todd and I went on our big adventure to Peru. We had such a fun and interesting time there! So I wanted to commemorate with a post!

This is the street right outside the "grand" entrance to the hotel we stayed at, the "Carlos V." Notice the blanket off to the left side of the picture? That was where a family of street vendors set up shop and hounded all of us EVERY time we came and went.

The purpose of the trip was to raise funds and provide services for "El Hogar de Ninos," a local orphanage for blind and otherwise disabled children. I taught classes on dental hygiene and brought a bunch of dental supplies donated by dentists and Oral B. We spent a lot of time with the kids and staff teaching and showing them proper brushing and flossing techniques--
pretty scary eh?

Todd helped with all of the hard labor. Here they are creating a long jump track that would have a sand pit at the end. He also spent about two FULL days, digging up a cement basketball court that was going to be repoured. When I say digging up cement, I mean literally picking at it with any tools we could find! Talk about HARD labor!

This is the sister that runs the orphanage. What a neat lady!

In the midst of the hard work, we went to Machu Picchu! What an amazing place! Sitting on top of a HUGE mountain that has NO easy access to get up to the top, it boggles the mind how this ancient civilization could even exist! It made me queezy to get to close to any ledges--and trust me there were plenty!
Our group "Trekking for Kids"- What a view!

BUT....

The best part about that whole trip was finding out the very next day after we came home, that we were going to be having baby Claire! We were so excited! And we celebrated by going to Hawaii a few days later! :) What a year it has been since then, and what great memories!

It's been so fun reading your blog. It's amazing how much has changed in the past couple of years. Clair is beautiful. But what else would you expect from you and Todd.

That trip looked so fun and that is neat you were able to help like that. Joe did a trip like that to Ecuador and absolutely loved it! You two are so cute and Claire's baby announcement was adorable!
